We nearly walked right past the halfway marker because I somehow had it in my mind that we wouldn’t ...We nearly walked right past the halfway marker because I somehow had it in my mind that we wouldn’t be halfway until the next day 😅 the initial pain of getting back into the all-day hiking rhythm has passed and I may have checked the map a few times to *imagine* what things would look like if we just… kept going… it looks like the Foothills Trail shares miles with the Palmetto Trail, which is 500 miles from just before where we started (Oconee area) to Charleston.. we don’t have enough time on this trip for it, but has anyone done the Palmetto Trail? After the weather we’ve had I’m all for coming back to South Carolina for a future shoulder-season hike ☀️

We are having a delightful time. Going west to east lets you start off with minimal elevation gain ...We are having a delightful time. Going west to east lets you start off with minimal elevation gain the first day (~3,500ft of gain compared to over 5,000ft of gain if starting east to west). The trail is behind us to the right and you can see just how pleasant it is. No one else is out here as (I’m assuming) this is the off-season for trail popularity, so we’ve been able to enjoy it all to ourselves.
